CDL Truck Driver Jobs, Employment in Wilkes-Barre, PA

Clover Farms, the largest privately owned dairy company in PA, was established in the rich, rolling hills of Pennsylvania Dutch dairy country in 1937, an era when our high-quality milk was sold in glass bottles and delivered to Pennsylvania homes in horse-drawn wagons. Today, our healthful milks and other fine beverages are delivered in refrigerated stainless steel tankers!

What We Expect of Our Drivers

Clover Farms drivers are responsible for loading, unloading and delivering a wide variety of dairy products, juices, and Icy Teas to various local locations within assigned route schedule and time windows throughout our delivery area. This includes stores, restaurants, schools, and other institutions located primarily in eastern Pennsylvania (including Philadelphia), New York City and Long Island, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

Class A CDL drivers will be required to operate a heavy (over 26,001 lbs) insulated tank-type straight truck, or tractor-trailer combination, to support scheduled pick up, transportation, and delivery between farms, dairy, and other designated commercial locations. Class B CDL drivers are typically required to drive “straight trucks” (or trucks with axels attached to a single frame).

Is it Better to Be a Company Driver or an Owner-Operator?

Driving for a specific company like Clover Farms is an excellent option when you want to earn a paycheck without having to lease or buy your own rig. Although an owner-operator may make more income per load and have more freedom to operate as they choose, there are some significant advantages associated with making company truck driving your long-term career.

Responsibility: Owner-operators have a lot of responsibility. This includes working to find loads, negotiating contracts, maintenance, and management tasks. They also have to find someone to take care of the truck and load when they are sick or called home for a family emergency. Company drivers are given loads to haul, and their main job is to drive. They are backed up by their driver managers and dispatchers if a problem arises or tires need to be replaced.

Training: Both company drivers and owner-operators have to undergo training to acquire their CDL, but owner-operators also have to learn how to book jobs and how to deal with customers, as well as the ins and outs of trucking laws and regulations. Some companies, such as Clover Farms, will allow you to earn money while you learn.

Expenses:  Company drivers are free of the burdens that come with ownership. As a company driver, you can leave the hassles of the job behind once you get home and are not responsible for paying for the truck, scheduling maintenance, paying for repairs and upgrades, or finding your next load. The money you make is yours, and you won’t have to reinvest in your truck.
